             Slavery was a very important topic for America agriculture was a main part of America's economy, it was one of America's main sources for money. America's farms and plantations produced goods such as tobacco, cotton, food and etc. The problem was there was not enough people to work the fields and they didn't have farm machines to do the work, so they turned to slavery. The only problem with slavery wast hat about half of the country thought it was wrong and half of the country thought it was fine. This is where the on going fight to either abolish slavery or to keep slavery started. Sadly we couldn't resolve the issue of slavery without getting violent and killing thousands and thousands of men.
             One of the most publicized cases of this time period was the Dred Scott Case. Dred Scott was taken to the territories in the Midwest by his master, and army surgeon named John Emerson. Dred Scott married Harriet Robinson, the slave of a federal Indian agent. John Emerson bought Harriet and her two daughter. Dred Scott and his family became property of Emerson's widow in 1843 when John Emerson died. Scott's family and their new master moved to St. Louis. Dred Scott wanted to work for wages and pay her from his earnings but his master Mrs. Emerson, refused. Then the Scotts petitioned for their freedom, claiming that their residence in the free territory entitled them to free states. The case
