I must say that I didn't learn anything new from the first chapter in Progress Gold B apart from a few new words. When I first began to read the text and noticed that it was about gender and the roles that men and women are expected to hold I got very interested. After finishing the part about the "Art of Talking Without Talking" I felt quite uneasy though, embarrased that schools actually are allowed to use this book as an aim to teach people not only a language but also some kind of a terrible message that women must stop talking with "their brains" and start talking to their men "like a human beings". First of all I'm so tired of the oldish and narrow-minded taked-for-granted-heterosexual-perspective, secondly: why do women always have to adjust theirselves to men? It's making me so upset to read this in a book which is suppose to instruct people, in a book where its in the answers turns out to be right saying that the lack of communication between the sexes are women's fault.
             Even though I thought that the writer's opinions and way of sketching the story was very prejuidiced and conservative I still kept my hope that the coming text in the chapter would look different, sadly it didn't. The second text was the worst: the one about the Japanese Ambassador's dandruff. Not only did the text make Japanese women (and also men) look awful comparing to Western people, it also made women in general to seem shallow and easy humiliated.
             The third text in the book is not a creation of the writer allthough it's chosen by him/her, it's an extract from Margaret Atwood's short story Significant moments in the life of my mother. This text is like the grand finale of the chapter, it's perfect picked out to illuminate the great divergence between the sexes.
