The great American film writer Roy Disney, nephew to Walt Disney once said "it is hard to make decisions when you know what your values are" (Value Quotes, 2005). So many corporate leaders in today's society make decisions with a complete disregard of ethics. Some decisions small and some large, but regardless of the size, it is the fact that so many companies are practicing unethically. I believe that a good corporate culture and a solidly defined code of business ethics are a necessity for a successful and ethical business.
With all the news about Enron and Martha Stewart, and their unethical practices, it is a real indicator that this is only the surface of the lack of morals in our society. There are so many corporate leaders who act based on the psychological egoism theory that is looking out for yourself first (Rosenstand, 2003). It is a shame that corporate leaders have to act in such a manner as that. It is that reason that many companies have the unethical corporate moral that they do. There are several standards every person should possess, especially those in high leadership roles.
One ethical standard that I find to be extremely important is integrity. I believe this to be very important because when doing business with others, mort people want to deal with someone who is trustworthy and is respectable. I'm sure not many people want to do business with someone who seems shady or unrespectable. In having integrity you display a sense of honor and a set of morals. This can be a great asset to a company, because it set a good example for other employees, especially is that person is in upper management.
Also, someone who has confidence in him or herself is a key standard. In business you have to have confidence I yourself if you want other to have confidence in you. By believing in yourself, others will also believe in you, which is also a good way to get promoted. Neverthe...
