"The Jacksonian Democrats of the 1830's had virtually the same political view as the Jeffersonian Democrats of an earlier era." This statement is not true for many reasons. Jefferson and Jackson both had very different ideas of democracy and these disparities extended into the political, economic, social, and religious aspects of their stances.
             Political differences between the two presidents began with issues such as suffrage, public office election, and Presidential candidate selection. Universal white manhood suffrage was not achieved under Jefferson, because he put made it a requirement to own property in order to be eligible to vote. Jackson, on the other hand, put no property requirements on those who wanted to vote, so that meant that every white man, rich or poor, could vote. Those citizens who were capable and well-educated were considered eligible for office-holding under Jefferson. Under Jackson, however, all men were qualified to hold office, regardless of their level of education and social stature. Both men also had dissimilar views on how presidential candidates should be chosen. Jackson believed in holding national nominating conventions where everyone in the nation would vote. Jefferson, however, wanted to hold political caucuses where only political leaders would choose candidates.
             Economically, Jefferson and Jackson still had many differences between them. Jefferson had a concept of a "chosen class" which was a certain group of people, the aristocratic farmers, whom he thought were most capable of running the country. Jackson expanded on Jefferson's concept by including all levels of farmers, laborers, and businessmen. When the industrial revolution came to America in the early 1800s, each president had their own thoughts regarding the changes it would bring.
