he tree raw and is how bucks identify with other bucks. If a buck comes and wants to take over a territory they can tell how big their competition is without seeing it. This way they can decide if they want to fight or flight.
When biologists are trying to form hypothesis on population growth they do two things they look at birth and death rates. For the Whitetail Deer on average birth rates are much higher then death rates. This makes for the population increase. Recently the death rates have been catching up to birthrates due to the population growth of humans. We are diminishing their habitats and taking away the resources they need to survive. Yet somehow the population still stays at a steady rate. Mating season for deer is called "The Rut". There are three stages of The Rut; Pre-Rut, Main Rut, and Birthing. During the pre-rut the behavior of the male drastically changes. Bucks become much more aggressive then usual. Doe's, which are the female deer, tend to consume more food then they would normally. This is really the only behavioral change they go throw in preparation for breeding. The second part of this breeding cycle is the main rut. This tends to last as long as the does are in estrus, which is usually about two to four days. The deer will mate several times during this period. If a doe does not mate during this period she will go into estrus again the following mo
