Same Sex Marriages

             In the constitution it states that "all men are created equal." That statement is open to many interpretations, but its main message is one that implies freedom of choice for everyone. If we are all truly free and equal, then why ban same sex marriages? Banning same sex marriges is just another way for a restrictive and conservative government to have more control over our already tightly controlled lives.
             In this country, many of the laws and amendments are based on religous matters. There is meant to be a line between church and state, but in recent years, that line has begun to fade away. Religion has long been a source of conflict among governments and peoples, but still the American government clings to it. This country was not meant to be founded on religion - Jefferson stated in a letter to Danbury Baptist Association in 1802 that he believed that there should be a "wall of separation between church and state." People insist that the country was founded on the Christian faith, but yet a founding father specifically said that this was not to be so? In my eyes, this makes no sense. In over 200 years, the U.S. Constitution has been amended only 17 times since the Bill of Rights, and except for Prohibition of alcohol, which was repealed, it has never been amended to restrict the rights and liberties of the American people.
             Not giving homosexuals the same rights under the law just becouse they like the same gender is just plan nonsense. People let their religious beliefs interfere with the personal lives of everyday people like you and me. The goverment should not be able to step in and say who you can or can not like, marry, or sleep with in the privacy of your own home.
