As far back as I can remember, I have always heard comments from family and even people that I do not know about my hair. Being born a cotton top to now a honey blonde. I believe being a natural blonde I have been dubbed dumb and misjudged. I hate the blonde jokes!!!! Being a natural blonde my entire life, it has been a world of hurtful taunts and ridicules.
I had the opportunity to become a manager for a new fast food restaurant here in Tyler, Texas. I started at 3:00 AM by waking up and getting the kids to the sitter and then myself to work by 4:30 AM. I was there early to set up for breakfast, cooking and counting registers for front counters. Basically getting everything ready for the 7:00 AM crew. I did this for about four months. I really wanted the job title of Manager. Needless to say the job was given to someone else a male employee. Afterwards I asked my boss why I did not get the job and after probing I was told it was because the owner felt a man was better suited and also because I was blonde. I stood there inn disbelief, unable to speak or breathe. My fault was in being blonde and a woman? The owners wife was blonde also. Did he have the same attitude toward her, that we just were not good enough, smart enough? I often wanted to ask him that but I just let it go as always just another disappointment i would have to endure due to the fact that I am blonde.
