Hamlet

Hamlet is a famous play written by William Shakespeare. It is about a son who wants to seek revenge for his fathers death. Disney's The Lion King is a children 's version of the play. It has a similar story line as Hamlet but directed to the younger audience.
The most obvious comparison in both the movie and the play is the death of the king. In Hamlet the king is killed by his brother Claudius, Hamlets uncle. The uncle wanted the throne despite the consequences of killing his own flesh and blood. This same incident occurred in The Lion King. In Hamlet the uncle kills his brother, Hamlet Sr. by pouring poison is his ear while he sleeps under a tree. While in The Lion King Scar uses Simba against his own father by placing him in a stampede so the king would try to save him. After saving his son the king bound for his own safety but was thrown off a cliff by his own brother.

The ghost explained to Hamlet how he was murdered by his brother and that Hamlet must not blame his mother but seek revenge on his uncle for the death. Whereas, Simbas father brought a different type of message to him. Simba was told that he had forgotten who he was and what he stood for. His father explained to him that he must take pride in himself and do what is right.
