New discoveries are being made in the field of genomics, an area of study which looks at DNA sequence of an organism in order to determine which genes code for beneficial traits and which are in inherited diseases. Computers can help to store and analyze this increased amount of information generated in this area of study. As a result a new research area that combines computers and biotechnology is emerging. This field is referred as Bioinformatics and involves the use internet tools, artificial intelligence and other computational methods toC assist in storing and analyzing data generated from DNA sequencing. More precise definition of Bioinformatics can be given as
" The mathematical, statistical and computing method that aim to solve biological problems using DNA and amino acid sequence and related information."
Thus Bioinformatics is the field of science in which biology, computer science and IT combined to form a single discipline. The goal is to discover new biological insights and create a worldwide perspective from which unifying principles in biology can found. Sub disciplines of Bioinformatics are: -
             • The development of new algorithms and statistics to assess relationships among members of large datasets.
             • The analysis and interpretation of various types of data including nucleotide and amino acid sequences, protein domains and protein structures.
             • The development and implementation of tools that enable efficient access and management of different types of information.
             • Computational biology:- This deals more with evolutionary, population and theoretical biology rather than cell and molecular biomedicine. It is inevitable that molecular biology is profoundly important in computational biology. In computational biology statistical ...
