Sargeant, like the coal, is useful for work that a white person does not want to do, but to associate with Sargeant is something white people would not do. Even in the white people's church, the black man or woman is not wanted. The church people, who are white, want the black person to do the work that they would consider beneath them, but do not want to help the black person in any way.
