In John's Bread of Life Discourse, Christ shows the analogy between bread and life. For we eat bread to nourish our bodies, and it gives us life. With out this we could not survive. Well, Christ is the bread of life, having him nourishes our spirits and gives us eternal life. With out him we have nothing. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and who believes in me will never be thirsty... For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the son and believes in him shall have eternal life and will raise him up on the last day. " (John)
             This is significant to the Jewish audience for several reasons. John mentions Moses and the manna that was eaten in the desert. The bread that they ate was simply bread, only giving them life on earth. However, Christ gives us the bread that gives us everlasting life. "Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."(John) A Gentile would not know of Moses like a Jewish man would. And a Gentile would not have the scriptural knowledge that a Jewish man would.
             Christ speaks the word father many times, which is significant to the Jewish audience because is a deity that they are familiar with. At the end of the discourse John identifies Christ as a teacher in a synagogue in Capernaum, which is there place of worship and learning.
             The Jews took part in a Seder Meal, which is the reenactment of the Passover, a yearly Jewish ceremony. The Bread of Life refers to the last supper, where Christ reinstituted the Passover Meal with the new meaning of eternal life.
