What are the methods of psychology practiced? Which is the best method? These are the types of questions along with others that I will be answering in this essay. I will proceed to explain the advantages and disadvantages of as well as define psychology terms such as structuralism, functionalism, psychodynamic theory, behaviorism and humanistic psychology. Then I will answer which form of psychology has made the most contributions and which form makes the most sense to me.
             The first form of psychology I will talk about is structuralism. Dictionary.com defines structuralism as being "psychology concerned especially with the resolution of the mind into structural elements. What that means is basically that structuralism is looking at the mind by a systematic form. That founder of this type of psychology is Wilhelm Wundt, who is also the father of psychology. He believed that he could solve psychological problems by studying sensory experiences such as attention span, color perception and reaction to stimuli. I believe that structuralism does answer some of the questions is psychology such as how the mere exposure effect explains how the more people see something, the more they are in favor towards it. To me, the mere exposure effect explains a lot because when faced with taking sides among friends I am more liable to take the side of the friend that I see more often. Another part of structuralism that I believe is interesting is color perception. This is because people perceive different colors differently according to their experience. Such as how a person could have a strong dislike for the color red, something could have occurred in that person's childhood or early adulthood that had turned them against the color. If you could find out what caused the adversity to the color, you could solve it. Hence you have solved one of the person's mental problems.
