The Glass Menagerie is a very well written play. Tennessee Williams, the author as a style of writing and usage of advanced words that make the play very interesting and entertaining. There were also some fun words in the play. One example is the word, frock, which is a garment used by men. I really do not enjoy reading plays, but this one was well written.
             The story is one that could have happen. The main story line is that Tom wants to get away from his unobtrusive spinster mother. Amanda, the mother of Tom and Laura, ponders over her husband who packed up and left one day without a word. Tom and Laura try to omit the thought of their father from their lives and move on with life. Now as the play goes on, the hostility between Amanda and Tome rises. This causes tension in the house. Laura tries to patronage Tom into staying at the apartment. Laura has very little endowments with one of her legs and she is extremely shy. Amanda is worried that Laura will end up not getting married and making the same mistakes she did with her ex-husband. To fix this conflict, Amanda goes beseechingly to Tom asking to find a gentlemen caller. Tom finds a caller for Laura, but it doesn't turn out to be a perfect match because the guy already had a girl friend. This ending did not surprise me because I remember the Laura mentioned that he was engaged. Then the male called said that he ended up breaking the engagement and he never said why which made me draw suspicion that he might have had an affair with another women.
             Character development contributes to the automatism style of writing use in the play. Amanda like I said earlier is an unobtrusive spinster. She is also full of vivacity and believes in the ways of the old south. She also has rhapsodic feelings towards her children and she wants to control their futures.
