Freedom is considered to be the main value for people. For centuries they have been struggling for it. The reward is tempting – a free person is not dependent. But I believe that the battle for human freedom will almost certainly be endless.
             Of course in some countries people have obtained certain constitutional freedoms: freedom of speech, religion and some others ( though even these freedoms will not apply at all times and in all circumstances) – freedom defined as the exemption from restriction of specific rights turned out to be accessible, though people have paid a lot for it.
             But I'm talking about another kind of freedom – internal freedom, exemption from control. While we live in a society this kind of freedom will stay an unattainable ideal. We cannot be completely free and independent. Our survival depends on our willingness to co-operate with one another, and to accept the degree of social order that makes life possible. Certain restrictions are necessary to keep this order. In a society your personal complete freedom is impossible, because it ends when you encounter a contrary freedom of another person. You are free to smoke, until you encounter my freedom not to inhale your smoke. If we didn't have restrictions and were uncontrolled we would have anarchy.
             Besides, we should not forget that we were born and raised among people, and thus, having no complete freedom is natural for us: we are all prisoners of collective habits, customs, traditions, prejudices, career, and fashion. It's impossible to get rid of them completely. Of course you might be acting or feeling free. You might dress outlandishly or become a Buddhist to seem different and independent. You might live a bohemian life, sleep when others work, or disobey social rules. You can be talented, gifted, intelligent, and beat your breast in self-satisfaction, and still be a slave of fashion.
