The story "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner proves that Emily's choice to be isolated from everyone else in her community was because she didn't really grasp the concept of socialization. Emily's withdrawal from society leaves her lonely and trying to hold on to what she has in life.
             In Emily's early life, she had a typical beginning for an African-American woman. Her life was based on tradition. However, in her latter days, she began to withdrawal from her environment. Her isolation was prominent in the sense of that outsiders did not live in their home. When her father passed away, she felt lonely. The town was at a loss for words. "We remembered all the young man, her father had driven away, and we knew then with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, as people will."(Faulkner 124) her known isolation and made the town very uncomfortable, no one wanted to approach her home or even her. Even when they saw her doing wrong. The town was horrified about the fact that she allowed a man to live with her. They didn't know how to approach her so, they sent letters to her family in Alabama eventually cousins showed up and moved in and Homer moved out, and with all the tension. The cousins move back to Alabama and Homer Homer moved back in again. Years passed, and eventually Emily passed. That's when they discovered Homer's body in a closed room dead. Apparently he had been dated for quite some time, because his body had decayed.
             Emily's father was all she had. When he died it was hard to deal with his death. Her father ran any possible male companionship, away. Since she didn't socialize she became secluded. Isolate and simply means to separate. They can't lean to insanity, or even becoming a fanatic (Yarros 211). There have been many cases were as a person has become so isolated that they have died from it.
