             Recently the federal organization, the office of personnel management (OPM), privatized their federal investigations. The move was so incredibly successful that it earned a spot as a finalist in the prestigious 'Innovations in American Government Awards Program.' From 1996 to 2000 the employee-owned company saved $65 million for the American taxpayer. The United States Investigative Service (USIS) is now the operating name for the investigative unit. It marks the first private company to be birthed from a federal program. Its employees still have access to the FBI's database, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
