When he came home, he drilled a well, and bought a pump for it, therefore, they had running water. They also got electricity, water, and sewer then.
             Section two, pages 59~103: This section begins with the Westfall's telling about their birthdays and how they met, in Roane County, Fletcher, West Virginia. Bill was seven or eight years old, and Hazel was around five. They speak about playing in the apple orchard, and sneaking out through the window.
             Hazel speaks about her brother dying of diphtheria and infantile paralysis, and about her having to take over his chores on the farm. She states that he was eight years old when he died, became ill in November and died in March because they couldn't get him any medicine. Hazels father was the type of man that paid his debts, regardless of how trivial they were, he was also a sick man; he had asthma, was in a car wreck that hurt him badly, and had a stroke; yet, he still continued to provide for his family making things such as baskets and chairs until he died. Hazel's mother was around 5'6", and 120 pounds, she was a strict lady; if she told her children not to do something, and they went ahead and did it, then she would cut a switch, and switch them around the legs.
