The Perfect Story

There are many stories found in our libraries today that are considered great because the authors have incorporated a captivating plot, some dynamic characters, and a captivating setting.
All great stories must have a captivating plot. The plot must capture the readers' attention in the beginning of the story. To do this, an author, at the beginning of the story, must reveal some portion of the plot to his reader. Revealing a portion of the plot will intrigue the reader and entice him to continue reading. An author must also be able to keep his readers' attention throughout the story. The author must continue building-up anxiety within his audience by revealing more and more information about the plot. The reader must want to continue reading until the end. Finally, the author must leave his readers' wanting more after the story concludes. A great story should end leaving the readers "on the edge of their seat."
A captivating plot alone will not make a story great. A story must include at least one dynamic character. A dynamic character is a very complex character. The author must provide enough information about a character to be interesting, but the character should also have hidden attributes and past events revealed throughout the story to give the reader insight as to why the character is the hero. Many of the superheroes found in books and magazines are extremely complex characters. Most of these characters live the life of a normal human by day but live as a superhuman by night. These heroes have a past, which is not completely revealed to us, that has driven them to become the heroes we know today. The audience is never told exactly why they chose to live the life of a superhero, but throughout both stories it is being revealed to us from their past.
Along with dynamic characters and a captivating plot, a great story must also incorporate a captivating setting.
