What goes around, comes around. A famous, simple proverb that most people can comprehend. Flannery O' Connor displays the cause and effect of that eminent phrase in her short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find." What one does to others will eventually be done to them in return, that's just how life works; in the end-the bad people always get what is coming to them. In "A Good Man is Hard to Find" the grandma justifiably dies in the end because of her manipulating, and selfish behavior.
The grandma's manipulating attitude throughout the story rightfully makes her eventually die. Because grandma knows that nobody else wants to go with her to Tennessee, she starts in her attempt to manipulate the children by scaring them; "Yes and what would do if this fellow, The Misfit, caught you?"(10). the grandma says to John Wesley. Grandma tries to control the family by scaring them; however, John Wesley is too badly behaved to even care. The grandma also lies to the children in attempt to manipulate them and make them want to go see a plantation that she recalls from her childhood. "There was a secret panel in this house"(16). the grandma tells the children "she said craftily, not telling the truth, but wishing that she were"(16-17). The grandma purposely tells the children about this "secret panel" because she knows they would want to see something like this and that they would then persist to bother Bailey about it, until he gives in and drives to the house. Grandma's manipulation towards the family eventually makes all of them have an encounter with The Misfit and they end up taking their last breath.
The grandma is a self-centered woman who wants the best for herself and will do anything to get that, but she is unaware that her behavior will wind up resulting in her death. "She had her big black valise that looked like the head of a hippopotamus in one ...
