             The move of tribal artifacts from cultural museums to art museums was becoming more frequent. This was quite possibly due in part by modern artists and art lovers' desire for a new vocabulary to restore the lifeless language of academic practicality.
             In examples of Primitivistic art one can frequently see two ideas juxtaposed on top of one another. In Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon one can see juxtaposed images, combining familiar images (the three women's faces on the left) with the more unfamiliar and strange (the two women's faces on the left.) These elements combined with the stark lines, easily definable shapes, limited color usage, and simple presentations of image are all defining characteristics of Primitivism in art as well as music.
             The ideas surrounding simplicity and finding truth in primitive settings are central themes in Primitivistic art and music. Gauguin's In the Vanilla Grove, Man and Horse embodies this theme of unrefined, simplistic truth.
