children. The new mammy, which is Fonso's new wife, may be crying because all Fonso wants is sexual pleasure with other woman.
Now that I have read further, I like the idea that Celie and Nettie are going to school. I was surprised when it was Fonso who wanted to send them off. I think that this is going to very important for Celie and Nettie. Learning to read and write will help them get around and have some education.
I really dislike the idea that Fonso wanted Celie to marry off first. First he's saying things like: "I can't let you have Nettie. But you can have Celie. She the oldest anyway. She ain't fresh tho, but I spect you know that. She spoiled. Twice. But you don't need a fresh woman no how." I'm beginning to hate this Fonso more and more. He should not say things about his own daughter like that. He is talking about how Celie is some piece of trash that needs to be dumped away. If Celie marries off, then Nettie and Celie might not be able to see each other again because the way I see it, Mr.__ only wants to marry Celie to take care of his children. He will probably send Nettie off too. Furthermore, Mr.__ will probably end up "using" Celie, just as her dad did.
Mr.__ is telling his son, Harpo: "Wives is like children. You have to let 'em know who hot the upper hand. Nothing can do that better than a good sound beating." I really dislike this idea because first of all, Mr.__ is not being a good role model for his son. When a man and a woman marry, they are both equal as a person. Neither one should be ranked in a "lower position" than the other. Mr.__ is also telling Harpo if the wives don't listen, then just beat them. Well, women should not be treated that way especially by their husbands. I think it is better to compromise and talk things out. All Mr.__ is saying is that men are everything and women are just the "property&q...
