             Adaptability is defined as "a family (or persons) ability to change its power, roles and rules based on situations and conditions they are in" (Dodd, Baldwin, 340). This adaptability can be measured in varying degrees, and different patterns of adaptation are listed. In this film, however, I specifically noticed "mixing" to be the pattern of adaptation most prevalent. With mixing, a family or individual keeps some aspects of life traditional, while they adapt other parts of their life to the environment surrounding them, or the cultural "norm" they are within.
             Jess's family lives many aspects of their lives in a traditional way for their Indian family. Jess's mother cooks traditional Indian food, and bothers Jess that it is time for her to fulfill her role as a woman and learn to cook. Her parents believe that it is very inappropriate for a woman to play soccer and they completely forbid her from doing it.
