The smell of sweat, the clang of metal, and the infamous cries are just a few of the unmistakable traits accustomed with weight rooms. Most people have either attended a gym or at least seen one on the television. But, have you ever taken the time to see just what kinds of people populate these kinds of areas? I have. I picked up my first intricately and carefully weighed piece of iron when I was only in the seventh grade. From that point on weight lifting became a dramatically large part of who I am. Because of my six years of continuos weight training and two years of competitive power lifting spanning across several states, I have been fortunate to observe all walks of life and their behavior in weight rooms. After all of this time I have come to realize that specific classifications can be made to determine just which type of lifter a person is and where they can most commonly be found.
Whether on television or in real life, we have all undoubtedly seen what I consider to be the most popular type of lifter, the ones I like to call the "does it for the attention" lifter. These are the guys that you see in weight rooms spilling out of designer tank tops, sleeveless shirts, and t-back muscle shirts along with long pants. Don't start thinking it is because of their Adonis like muscularity. This is most often not the case. It is usually because they wear clothing small enough to fit a severely malnourished Chihuahua. These fellas are extremely vain and self-conscious, often spending more time in front of a mirror fixing their hair or flexing their muscles than really lifting. And trust me, they never meet a mirror that they don't like. But I guess this is okay because the only reasons they usually go to the weight room is to either "pump" up their ego, get a date, or get ready for a date.
