I saw the commercial about emphasizing sex and teen comedy: I was glued to the television. I couldn't wait until it came out. Also, this is where the generic teen elements come out too. With the generic elements I mentioned, a huge one for the whole trilogy is popularity and belonging. I remember if you weren't getting laid in high school you were not part of the "cool and popular crowd." In the film four male high school seniors make a pact to lose their virginity before the prom. All the male characters feel like they don't belong because they are not getting laid, like they are the outcasts from every other senior.
