I chose the topic why people take drugs because I find drug use a most serious problem of our society nowadays. The reasons are the key to it. Behind all our actions are some reasons and I will try to describe and divide those most serious which make people take drugs. There are many books on the drug use and they also deal with my topic. Also drug addicts are willing to tell you their reasons if you ask them but they have to trust you. Mostly you come across hypotheses that the main reasons are "sorrows of adolescence, looking for meaning of life, desire to discover new things and absolute freedom"(Brightonová, S., & Perry, M.,1998). The aim of this essay is not to find any solution to the chosen topic but only to describe it.
             The motivations for drug use should be firstly devided into those before trying them for the first time and into those after the first experience with drugs. This division is important because of the fact that when you ask people the reasons they will immediately answer that the most common reason is the effect of drugs on the possible addicts. How can they claim such thing? When one has never experienced drugs before one cannot talk about their effect as for the main motivation.
             The most common reason for experiencing drugs for the first time is curiousity. Curiousity is also said to be the motivation for these who have used drugs once or twice and have not engaged in any further drug experimentation."There exists in all of us an intrinsic desire to experience the unknown, and this desire is especially pronounced during the ages of strong peer influence, when many of a youngter 's friends are experiencing drugs"(Dusek, E., & Girdano, A.,1987). Here drugs are something like a temptation which is hard to resist.
