In Bret Easton Ellis's book, Rules of Attraction, there are many diverse characters that are imperative to the story. The audience is more then guaranteed to look at these characters and notice a little of their own qualities in the characters. Others find common personalities and characteristics in the characters and people in their everyday life. Personally for me, Lauren (what a coincidence), is that character.
             In Lauren, one can see that at times she doesn't seem to care about her appearance or what people think about her, and at other times she does. Lauren just rolls out of bed, realizing what she has to do but is in no mood to take the time to actually do it, for example washing her hair. But on the other side, while in the dining hall, she starts to flirt with a lunch boy but stops and turns away after realizing that she rolled out of bed looking disheveled. Lauren in a sense can be considered a slacker at times as well due to her 'forgetfulness' when it comes to her I.D. and her four overdue art books from the library. Unknown hypocrisy is another quality that Lauren's character embraces. When sitting down with her friends, Judy and Roxanne, she claims that she is sick of her college because "everyone reeks of cigarettes". Although no less then five minutes later is she lighting up one herself. But is Lauren doing this all because it is truly her personality or has someone or something forced her to change? Later on the audience finds out that she once had a man she openly loved, Victor. This is something that pretty much anyone who has been in love before can relate to; Lauren is trying her best to move on.
             I find myself most like Lauren in the sense that I sometimes act out of what my personality truly is simply because I need to move on from a love. But finding oneself comes with hardships as well as moments of joy. Life is about the simple math solution, 'guess, test, and re...
