The Great Gatsby

             the great Gatsby, Fitzgerald presents us to see Jay Gatsby as a superior character, Nick Carroway one of the characters in the book, is the narrators through out, telling the story of how Jay Gatsby tries to reach his disillusioned goal. Gatsby is living the America dream where happiness is acquired through wealth.
             The American dream for Gatsby is trying to fill full his goal to get what he wants, which is daisy. Fitzgerald presents two types of charters, cynicism 'vs' romanticism. Tom Buchanan is a cynical man, compared to Jay Gatsby who is represented as the ultimate romantic. "...if personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, there was something gorgerous about him. It was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again. No Gatsby turned out all right at the end it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated."
             Jay Gatsby fatal flaw is his devotion and pure love longing for daisy for all these years. He doesn't realise that he 'Can't repeat the past?' he cried incredulously. 'Why of course you can!' Gatsby is a true romantic man who believes he'll win her over by his wealth. By daisy being amoral person she doesn't want to step down the lead to be with Gatsby because "rich girls don't marry poor boys" Gatsby being the romantic man he is, he does not realise how daisy is just playing around with him. Gatsby know to get daisy its all about money "Her voice is full of money". But Gatsby having wealth doesn't have the right type of new money where tom has the old money. Because Gatsby cant seem to fit in even though he was the money. It's about the 'codes' how to act in a upper class, Gatsby is old fashioned and has morals well as Tom Buchanan daisy's husband is amoral.
