Murder for pleasure or for sport is thought of as heinous and revolting, but if you exchange passion for pleasure and fear for sport, then you have what society views as "tolerable" killings. Personally the only time I can stomach killing is when it is clearly in self defense. But what causes one to kill, what do some of us consider worse than killing? The frailty of trust; the loss of trust due to someone abusing that trust and destroying our faith in them, this can drive some to do what we think of as unthinkable. Even for those who are already criminals or killers there is a line of trust that is thought to be uncross able. But when that line is crossed watch out because the loss of trust is more dangerous than a face to face duel. This forbidden crossing has been well stated in these two pieces of literature; "Road to Perdition" a movie directed by Sam Mendes in 2002 and "Saboteur" a short story written by Ha Jin. In both of these stories the lead characters commit murders, because of someone destroying their trust.
             "Road to Perdition" is a story of a father who has lost his wife and youngest son to an intolerable killing. Now Michael Sullivan Sr., the lead in this story, has to protect his remaining son, Michael Jr., in anyway he can muster. The second story is "Saboteur" in which Mr. Chiu exalts his revenge on over eight hundred people by ingeniously contracting them with acute hepatitis, six of which died, two of the dead were children, all because he was falsely accused of and forced to sign a confession of sabotage.
             Michael Sullivan is a protector and provider for his family and for his boss and the organization for which he worked.
