t the Cambodian people confused and uncertain about what values are acceptable in modern Cambodia (Canesso, 74). Gradually, however, many of them are returning to their traditional ways of living. One good example of the Cambodians' renewed interest in old customs is the rebirth of religion.
             At one point in Cambodia's history, religious activity was forbidden and Buddhist monks were forced to leave their monasteries to work in the fields (Canesso, 74). Today, the monks have returned to their monasteries, and Buddhist festivals once again punctuate the Cambodian year. About two percent of Cambodians are Muslims. Many of the Vietnamese are Roman Catholic, and almost all of the Chinese are Taoist (Canesso, 75).
