Recently, Cingular Wireless joined forces with AT&T Wireless. After the process of the merger, Cingular Wireless has now become the largest wireless company in the United States. Since the merger, the company now services more than 50 million subscribers who use the nation's largest digital voice and data networks. Conversely, there have been several underlying problems from customers and employees that have not yet been addressed publicly within the company.
Cingular Wireless has come across problems, internally and externally for the organization. We will identify and discuss a brief background of the predicaments, the cause and effects of the problem and give alternatives that could have possibly prevent the problem before the problem stimulated.
Before the merger became final, Cingular had many options available to them for preventing the problems that occurred. The two companies should have realized that the merger would effect everyone nationwide and not just local customers. With this merger being the largest ever, some control measures and preparations should have been in place to prevent problems as obvious as these should.
The first consideration should have been to consider the different time zones and how the merger would affect them. In considering the time zones, the organization should have considered the hours of operation for the business and the employees to accommodate the west coast as well as the east coast. The main office may still be located in the south, but there should be an office to accommodate each region, which would lead to satellite, or regional offices in the four corners of country.
The central office should have tested the operation during the merge and monitored the operation for trouble until the merger was complete.
