             The Evangelical Protestent Upsurge and Its Political Implications
             All I know is what I have seen from the televangelists and the movies. I wanted a better understanding of what Evangelism was beyond that kind of thing shown in Leap of Faith.
             Evangelism in it's most basic is a Christian sect that stresses a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and The teaching of the Bible. Also A belief in strict morality, such as non-violence, family values, the deletion of machismo in male behaveior and intrestly enough a support in of the separation of church and state. Another good quality of Evangelism is that the believers are from all parts of socity, from the lowest peasant to the upper elite.
             However individuals express this belief differently. Such as those known as Televangelists who attempt to spread their beliefs via television. Or Pentacostals who believe in a mystial manifestations of their belief, such a prophecies, faith healings and speaking in toungues.
             One charactaristic about Evangelism that makes it unique is that it originated in the United States and has spread throughout most of the world. Martin observed that during the last few decades there has been a rise in Evangelism. This is most evident in places that are considered to be Third World countires. Evangelism has grown quite poplular in places such as Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa also China, the Philipines, the upper part of the Pacific Rim as well as parts of Eastern Europe (pg. 37)
             Based on Martin's estimation Evangelism currently has aproximatly 200 million followers. Although specific classification of believers is a debateable topic. One of the largest concentrations of believers is Latin America, which boosts approximatly 40 to 50 million followers, that comprises roughly one-tenth of the whole population. A large cause of such a large following is the growth of Pentecostalism.
