When American fast food restaurants such as McDonalds becomes global, foreigners want to eat from that fast food place because of its popularity of being an "American" product, and they will continue to eat from that place regardless of the risks (health wise) involved. Schlosser proved the consumers' want for American food and stated, "The nation's traditional diet of rice, fish, vegetables, and soy products has been deemed one of the healthiest in the world. And yet the Japanese are rapidly abandoning that diet" (491). Nations began to "abandon" their healthy traditional food and started to get in the habit of McDonalds modernized food. In spite of Schlosser's opinion and reason for naming modernization dealing with consumerism as a threat to tradition, it can still be an asset that maintains the tradition.
