nd does not continue to diminish, it will all be alright in the end (Sierakowiak, p. 92). Around this time though, Dawid really starts dwelling on his hunger, noting it often in his entries. His writings have switched from always including something positive practically everyday to always including how hungry he is and that nothing ever seems to fill this void. This unremitting hunger is eminent of his entries May 30, 1941, June 7, 1941, and July 19, 1941, respectively: "I don't think I'll ever be able to satiate this hunger," "There is almost nothing to fill up this greedy stomach," "It's more and more difficult for me to go on starving. ... [N]ow I'm and empty pot. I was so weakened by the lack of soup at school that I thought I would collapse" (Sierakowiak, p. 96, 100, 112). In addition, he now starts referring to the Devil in numerous entries. Sayings like " the Devil hasn't choked us enough yet in this ghetto" are great in number; in fact the phrase "Only the Devil knows what will come of all this" is repeated at
