Why Abroad?

It is for a fact that nurses are in demand in the U.S. and other "big" countries. As a Filipino, I am very much aware of the economic condition of my country. I know that we are having a hard time trying to be abreast with other fast-paced countries. It is just natural to cling to whatever lifesaver we see. We see abroad as our ticket to financial security. We feel and we know that dollars have bigger value against our devaluing peso. A lot of jobs are offered in the U.S. and nurses are very needed there. That's why many of us are taking up the course, B.S. Nursing. In fact, even doctors are going back to school. Parents and degree holders are taking a second course. And the twist? I'm in my first year of that infamous course. Yet, a lot are still cynical about the thought of going abroad just to earn dollars. They say, and I quote my English teacher, "Why? To wipe American asses?" This is very unfair.
I really need to answer that question. I believe that by going abroad, I am doing everybody a favor. Economically, that's a factor. How about personal reasons? Perhaps, I should reveal a part of this decision. I really want to help my family. I want to be sure that I will land on a job 5 years from now. A job that I'm sure will let me live quite contentedly. Besides, I love traveling. Isn't that reason enough?
