Growing on the last DQ, as the social community developed so did a pecking order. Like in any grouping a set of levels of importance was created. For most status was thought to mean how popular or wealthy one was. However as we look deeper into its true meaning, we see it is actually set up by our social interaction. You can obtain a status through achieving it. The head lion defeats the former head of the pride and takes his place as the leader of the pride. Another way to gain status by it being ascribed. Ascribed status is achieving your status through birth rights. i.e. as a princess would take the thrown when the queen passes on. This pecking order is a status within the community. So, now with no social interaction we would not have a status and without status' we would not know how to socially interact with others. So, I now know what my status is within my community. Let's use the family organization; I am the father. That is my status within this unit. Other statuses are Mother, Child and sibling. As the father, I have specific roles to play; the leader of the unit, decisions on things, specific actions taken for specific situations, and for the most part in my family unit the bread winner. (Now my spouse does work. She just does it at Home.) Now can one individual hold more than one status? Sure! As one works, one had a status within that community and within that community this one will also have a role to play. When the role of father and the role within work conflict, we have role strain or role conflict. Some decisions that are made within our work community may effect or conflict within our role as a father. There is one more type of role and that is role confusion. As our communities grow and different social statuses and roles are created, we can blur the lines between these roles.
