"The mind is a terrible thing to waste." This is a quote from the infamous Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ever since the civil rights movement in the 1960's, African-Americans are now becoming more motivated to move up in society rather than to stay in the position they were in, which were being under-achievers. African- Americans are now more than ever earning college degrees because we are putting God first in our lives, developing a sense of priorities, and placing themselves in a positive environment in order to achieve success.
Our young black people can accomplish anything we want as long as we keep God first in our lives. A person cannot be successful in life without having God in his or her life. God represents a guiding light, keep your focus on him, and you will not get lost in the world. For this reason, God can open door for a person to enter the path of success. Also, African-Americans grant most of our success to our ancestors, whom paved the way for an easier future. In each generation of this world, of all races, there has been a person, not satisfied about the way of society, tried to make a better way for their future generations. It started with biblical figures such as Jesus. If Jesus was not uncompromising with Pilate and the Jews, then he would have got down the cross, and we would still be in damnation. If Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were not uncompromising about black rights, the civil rights bill would not protect black freedom and rights. Even if our President George Bush was not uncompromising, our life, liberty, and freedom will still be in vain, being violated by terrorists from alien countries. The point is, to make these heroic people successful; we must be heroes like them and continue the cycle of improving our future, starting with education.
