Macbeth Act III Tragic Hero's Flaws in Character

             The tragic hero Macbeth in Shakespeare's play Macbeth has various flaws in his character which become evident in Act III. First of all, Macbeth's habit of feeling threatened all the time is one flaw that gets him in a lot of trouble. In this act Macbeth feels threatened by Banquo's royal and authoritative manner. This threatening feeling prompts his need to murder Banquo in Act III, and also prompts the other murders that Macbeth commits throughout the rest of the play. If Macbeth could be more secure with himself and not feel as threatened by others, his character would be much better off.
             Another flaw with Macbeth's character that is revealed is the fact that he is on an endless mission seeking unfulfilled happiness. Lady Macbeth notices that her husband is not enjoying his royalty at all and worries that all of their lying and crimes have been committed for nothing. Later in the act, Lady Macbeth even has to request her husband to pretend he is happy in front of the guests, so they will not be suspicious of anything. Macbeth's strong drive and obsession to be king is a very big flaw because it is only hurting him and ruining his life. This strong obsession only makes him do regretful things and offers no rewards or breaks from the treachery.
             Macbeth shows one more flaw in Act III and that is his inability to ignore his conscience. Since he has chosen the path of being a murderer, the ability to ignore his conscience is an essential characteristic for Macbeth to obtain. Unfortunately for him, Macbeth does not have this ability, and it is a huge flaw which causes him to blow his cover. Since Macbeth can not ignore his conscience, he is haunted by guilt and Banquo's ghost. This causes him to have outbursts at the dinner table in front of the guests.
