ping drug distribution. An average of 1.5 million people a year are arrested for drug related crimes. These are surprising statistics that make me wonder whether we should continue this effort. This seems like a lot of money but, $18 billion dollars makes up approximately only 1% of the Federal Government's annual expenditures. In the beginning of any good pro-legalization article is the famous quote "The government is throwing billions and billions of dollars at the war on drugs......" The fact of the matter is that the government is actually spending a conservative amount of money on drug control, even though there is an urgency and seriousness of the problem. Neither the Federal Government nor the various police agencies throughout our nation are going bankrupt over the money they are spending on drug control. I think that if we really wanna stop the drug industry we should spend more time, money and resources addressing this issue.
