Where do i belong

             "You're Not Catholic, Are You?" An essay written by Ted Solotaroff tells the
             story of how a young boy has trouble capturing his own identity. In this short essay Ted the young boy is going through a stage of not really knowing who he is and where exactly he belongs in life. At Ted's school there was a group of boys that he in some ways looked up to. They were the St.Genevieve guys. Ted was a huge fan of these boys and they were tremendous athletes at Ted's school. After one evening game the St.Genevieve guys to Ted's surprise asked him so come along. The boys were going to grab a soda then after attend confession. Ted no longer felt like such a loser, he was handing out with the St.Genevieve guys he felt extraordinary and more confident than ever before. Soon after, the boys had left to attend confession Ted had waited for them across the street. While waiting across the way Ted began to observe the handsome gray stone Catholic church and thinking what a wonderful religion. A priest then begun to walk toward Ted and ask how he was doing. Ted was so nervous he didn't know how to address the priest. Half of him wanted to call him Father and the other half of him didn't. After Ted's conversation with the priest he looked back over to the church and he no longer saw that handsome gray stone church but what he now saw was a black iron fence with grim spikes. It was at this moment when Ted realized that he did not belong with the
             St.Genevieve guys nor to the Catholic Church. He quickly ran away before confession was over.
             Ted states at the end of the story "Now there was just me again; a few good catches didn't change anything, didn't make me belong with the St.Genevieve guys." Ted felt that just because he could catch a
