In "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar" there were many speeches that took place. But the most famous of them all, was the funeral eulogy for Caesar by Mark Antony and Brutus. This speech took place shortly after Brutus and many other conspirators killed Caesar in the Senate. It was made very obvious that Mark Antony's speech was going to discredit Brutus and the other conspirators. After, Mark Antony found Caesar dead on the Senate floor he shook each of the assassins hands and made a short gesture of how he resented Brutus and the conspirators.
In Act III, scene ii, the Plebeians gave both Brutus and Mark Antony a chance to give an explanation of what took place at the Capitol. When the time came Brutus spoke first.
In the beginning of the Brutus's speech he ask the people of Rome to hear him out before they judge him. He starts by saying he loved Caesar but he loved Rome more. By this he meant that he wanted to protect the Roman people from Caesar wrath. He says that have made all the common people slaves. He also tells the people that Caesar would have driven Rome and its' people to tyranny. He promises that he will cry for Caesar because he was a fortunate, valiant, honorable, joyous, and loveable man. But, he was forced to kill him because of his ambition. Brutus also made sure he did not offend anyone in his speech. In concluding his speech Brutus respectively introduced Mark Antony and asked the countryman to honor Caesar's body and his achievements. After Brutus spoke the crowds views were swayed and they agreed that Caesar was a tyrant.
The next person to speak was Mark Antony. In the beginning of his speech he says that he is not there to praise Caesar, but he did come to bury him.
