What we classify as freedom may not be as free as we would like to believe. Americans everywhere are comfortable believing that they are free. Time has proven that all things free did not come without consequences. Freedom is not fully possible without a change in lifestyle. America may be a "free" country, but everything comes at a price.
Freedom of speech doesn't allow us to speak slander, but if we believe what we say is true, it is no longer considered slander. How then would you decipher belief of truth from reality? Freedom of religion doesn't exist because if your belief differs from another's, you are subject to ridicule. If someone is taunted, they become hurt and that would be the price for their personal belief. Freedom has never been free.
Even when our country was born there was the possible consequence of death. During the Civil War when slaves fought for their freedom, much blood was shed. These examples had a greater effect than most, but they also involved more lives. Even today people express themselves freely but may be taunted for it. People's judgment towards the fellow man does not allow freedom to reign.
For everyone to have an equal grasp on freedom, people must not be so judgmental. We should dismiss all prejudices. Difference of religion, color of skin, clothing of choice, brand name-none of these are usually expressive of the soul. Looking at the heart is the only way you can make an accurate opinion of the person. To have a true sense of freedom you must be both physically and emotionally free.
Whether the price is great or small, all freedom is important and sometimes costly. Some feel freedom within their grasp but that's all they may ever know. Some have overcome obstacles placed before them but then strove to achieve none more. Some strive to be more free. Now the cost is steadily lowering, and the value of freedom is always constant
