Swift

             One of the most important facts about the history of English language is that it passes through many difficulties and stages until it gets its stability. Stability of language is the main purpose of the Jonathan Swift in his letter to Earl of Oxford. Swift, an Irish author, is considered one of the most famous literacy figures in English history. He is also considered a great satirist in English language. In "A Proposal for Correcting, Improving, and Ascertaining the English Tongue," Swift shows his concern about the situation of English language as it goes to the worst. In his proposal, he introduces his argument, gives some factors that lead language to collapse, and gives some solutions to these problems. Swift's idea of controlling language, standardizing by establishing English academy is not valuable solution to improve language situation.
             In his proposal, Swift complains about the situation of English language at that time. He thinks that English is imperfect, and that all attempts to improve it, in fact, lead it to decay. In his argument, Swift gives some specific reasons for the decay of language. First, he believes that English changes to the worst because it has no longer contact with Latin. He also blames a set of people for the decay of language as they have some role in that. For example, he blames the poets as they focus on consonants and leave out the needed vowels for the sake of rhythm. Moreover, he attacks the uncontrolled change that leads language to lose its purity and simplicity. He thinks that uncontrolled change will lead language to be less simple and non understandable for the next generation. In addition, he suggests specific solutions to improve and protect language.
