In the short story Sarah Cole: A Type of Love Story, two characters are introduced by the names of Sarah and Ron. Sarah and Ron share a mutual connection which slowly results in romance. Being in love with someone naturally develops between two people it cannot be forced nor can it be put on a timeline. When two people fall in love with one another beauty is the least of their worries. The catch to this story is that Ron's character is portrayed as someone very attractive whereas Sarah's character is portrayed as someone who is very unattractive. The theme of this story is "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" Ron saw something in Sarah that no one else saw and from the moment that they met they could not get enough of on another. Ron saw past Sarahs appearance and was more interested in her personality. The purpose of this essay is to show the reader that beauty is not always the key to happiness, a person can fall in love with an individuals personality rather than their appearance.
Ron and Sarah met at a cocktail lounge in New Hampshire, he went there after work to relax and have a few drinks not expecting to meet someone at the end of the night. "Ron takes a seat at the bar, unfolds the evening paper in front of him orders a scotch and soda and with a twist and goes back to reading his paper" Ron is known for his good looks and personality but feels that it did not get him very far in his life because he still feels somewhat unhappy with the way things are progressing. "Ron is effortlessly attractive, a genetic wonder, tall, slender, symmetrical and clean, but that makes him a little less unhappy then they". "He is nice,the consequence, perhaps, of his seeming not to know how bautiful he is, to men as well as women, to young people as well as old".
