ATTACHMENT PARENTING

             Some mothers spend years trying to conceive when they discover they are pregnant. Thoughts running thru a mom-to-be are; what name will I choose, how I will decorate my baby's room, and what parenting approach will I take. There are two types of parenting styles with many sub-groups, one being by modern way and another called Attachment Parenting (also known as AP). Attachment parenting isn't a new phase at all it is a fairly ancient way of parenting that in the late nineties was named what is now Attached Parenting. Many indigenous tribes still follow this practice. Attached parenting is a style of parenting where in general parents and caregivers listening to what the children need and when they need it instead of having rigid standards for what should be done. Dr. Sears defines Attachment Parenting by the seven B's; "Birth bonding, Breastfeeding, Baby wearing, Bedding close to baby (known as co-sleeping amongst Attachment moms), Belief in the language values of your baby's cries, Beware of baby trainers, and balance.
             Birth bonding basically consists of delaying all procedures as long as possible. Procedures vary from hospital to hospital but generally consist of giving the vitamin K shot, putting eye ointment in baby's eyes, bathing and, grooming. The eye ointment temporarily blurs baby's vision or causes his eyes to stay closed. Baby needs a clear first impression of mother, and mother need to see those eyes. The parents delay all treatments generally for the first a few hours of life. These first few hours are considered "Sensitive Period (Dr. Sears)" where a first impression is crucial a mother is generally handed the baby the instant he or she arrives into the new world and as significant other cuts the umbilical cord.
