Antony- Hero or Villain?

             The world is full of people who make their actions look honorable but have intentions which are much less then honorable. The character Marc Antony in William Shakespeare's play "Julius Caesar" was not made clear to whether or not he was a hero or villain. Antony could persuade the people in Rome that he cared for his city, but further into the play as he got more powerful he slowly began to endanger Rome.
             Antony comes across as a loyal man in Act one, waiting hand and foot on Caesar. For example when Caesar asks for Antony to touch Calpurnia in his run of Lupercalia, Antony responds flatteringly with "when Caesar says 'do this' it is performed." After Caesar's death Antony's character seemed to change for the worst; Antony becomes a power hungry leader. After Caesars death Antony makes it appear that he approves of the reason for Caesars death. Without directly blaming Brutus and the others involved in killing Caesar, Antony provokes the Romans to revenge for Caesars death. The relentless mob riot destroys everything that had to do with his death.
             Antony, Lipidus and Octavius met up to discuss who was to be killed and how they should go about taking over Rome. It is at that meeting where Antony beings to show his major flaws, he throws rude remarks at Lipidus and Octavius, for example when Octavius says "So you thought him and took his voice who should be pricked to die in our black sentence and proscription" with Antony's response "Octavius, I have seen more days then you; and though we lay these honors on this man to ease ourselves of divers sland'rous loads, he shall but bare them as the ass bares gold." Showing that Antony had become power hungry because of his influence over Octavius and Lipidus.
