Principles of Marketing
For this assignment I decided to write this essay on the concept of Macro-Marketing that was discussed in the first chapter. I picked this particular article because Posco is the world's top steel maker. It is a company that is based out of Korea but has enormous plans of expanding into numerous countries like China, India, and Russia. This obviously indicates that there will be an effect on the global economy because of their expansion.
Expanding into China (their number one export country) will greatly reduce any of the expenses they have for shipping, not to mention any and all existing tariffs. With China using a fourth of the world's steel supply, this would place Posco, the producer right at the consumer's 'front door'.
Furthermore, the incorporation of their new technology 'Finex' will greatly reduce not only cost but also the percentage of toxic emissions that they once produced. This will be beneficial to not only Posco, but also to the human race. The less emissions there are the better it is for global health. By proving the effectiveness of the 'Finex', it will help Posco be accepted into rapidly developing countries like India and Russia. It goes without saying that in due time, this technology will also be adapted to the other top steel makers of the world. If Posco can reduce costs by nearly a fifth, it only makes sense that the other world leaders in the steel making industries will follow, just to stay in business. Again, this demonstrates what kind of an impact the global economy will feel.
Posco's success is obviously beneficial to Korea's development in the macro-marketing viewpoint. With three-quarters of its sales still coming from Korea it certainly has an impact on the nation's economy.
