have other women be represented in the armed forces. One of the most famous women who worked for this was Edith N. Rogers. In 1941, Edith was a Republican member of Congress who represented Massachusetts. While a active member of Congress, she introduced a bill establishing the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps or the WAAC. After a delay of several months, the hearing of the bill was finally held in 1942. The bill was finally established, because there were heavy losses on the Western Front. After the final hearing Edith was quoted on her feelings about women and war, she said ,"If we are to have total war and that is what we are experiencing at the present time-there us a very definite place for women in it" (Dudley 155).
The public's reaction however, was that of eagerness to get involved in the war. Women across the country sent letters to Edith thanking her for what she had done
