             There are a lot of problems in this world, but few as emotionally tormenting as the inability to take hold of a task and complete it. No one enjoys the feeling of failure, and no one likes being deemed as incapable. Few people dare to take hold of difficult tasks and challenge themselves. Perhaps they don't see that difficulty of a task is heightened by lack of confidence and a fear of daring. It is easy to see why these views are formed.
             Daring is not a matter of jumping out of a plane for the fun of it. Nor is it being able to swim with sharks or play with lions. To dare is to have necessary courage or boldness. Very few people believe they have that courage. One of the main causes of this is lack of confidence. We are born into, and brought up in, a world of hierarchy and classing. We are taught not to question authority and accept things as they are. Of course confidence is going to be lacking in people if they are continually told that they are always working for someone else and that's that. No one questions why or how. Admittedly, without this hierarchy, and leadership, the world would be in chaos, but people are told they have no choice in the matter. Every now and then someone will stand up and fight for what they believe in, but if they are too outrageous society will shun them and their views.
             This is shown in the example of Christopher Columbus. How many people had the confidence to say that the world was round? Columbus stood up for what he believed in and stated to the whole of society that yes, the world is round. Columbus was shunned, ridiculed, laughed at and mocked because he chose to differ. He then went on to circumnavigate the world and discover America. How many people now have that kind of confidence? Very few, which is why no one dares.
