A group of people joined together by common interests, for fellowship. As a rule, fraternities refer to male groups or co-ed groups, and sororities refer to female groups. Many people regard it as a special sort of culture in the western world for most of the fraternities are not only mass organizations based on similar characters, but also have compact systems. If a person wants to seek membership of a fraternity or sorority, it is more likely to be a marriage between families of equal social rank. And there¡¯s even someone concluding five basic elements which originated from the former concept. They are: a secret grip, mottos, a ritual, a code of laws, and a distinctive badge.
             Why fraternities and sororities are so popular among especially young people? And what make them so attractive? I once saw a film called Legally Blonde, and it told a story about how a beautiful Harvard girl took the advantages of her wisdom, beauty as well as the support given by her sorority, managed to conquered a succession of difficulties and finally realized her dream. The relationship between each member in the sorority is quite amazing and new to our Chinese students, that is, no matter what kind of a part one played in the modern society, she would gain the respect from others and respect others in return. What¡¯ more, when one was in need of assistance, she was able to turn to anyone who¡¯s a member too. In a fraternity or a sorority, elitism, sexism and all other vices of the outside may no longer exist. And everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a new style of life according to another kind of system. Well, that¡¯s probably the reason why so many people go after it and are willing to be a member at any cost.
