There are myriad examples of this surrealist bent: the comments of the man from SIMUVAC, the odd nature of the supermarket and its cans of generic food, and Jack's own disbelief of his vulnerability due to his being " not just a college professor" but also "the head of a department"(117).
             Paula Fox's work could not be any further removed from surrealism. In fact it is so grounded in realism as to be tedious.
